Hercolaneum (2h)
In 79 AD the same terrible volcanic eruption that destroyed Pompeii buried the town of Herculaneum.
You will walk through the ruins and visit the remains of many beautiful houses where the state of preservation is still incredible: the House of Neptune and Amphitrite, the House of the black living-room, the Bakery, and the College of the Augustales.
A particular feature of the site is the presence of the original carbonized wood furnishings and doors as well as the still perfectly preserved second floors of many buildings. This is something you cannot see in Pompeii.
Last but not least, you will reach the area that was the port of the city. During the eruption of Vesuvius many tried to escape the wrath of the eruption by hiding in the seaside storage areas of the port. The skeletons of those who tried to escape the eruption of Vesuvius have been preserved in this area .
